Jul. 14th, 2013 02:50 pmThe Road So Far ...
The first group of Indebted arrived in January 2013, with a large drafty temple and a ruined city outside to greet them. Odin and Cyrus explained the situation, and most of them were understandably upset at the notion. However, it was slowly made clear that they wouldn’t be going home anytime soon, and some settled into the day-to-day life of the city, while others tried to still search for their way back home. The hunting party investigated the woods, and stumbled onto the fact that there was a rather large dragon hiding in the trees, aiming to prevent them from leaving. Add to that the discovery of personal effects belonging to some of the members found in an abandoned floor above where they were staying, and the temple only continued to be shrouded in more and more mystery.
Still, by the time the Inaugural Feast rolled around at the end of the month, none of them had gotten any further in that department. At the feast they were introduced to both Thor and Attar, two agents who were both equally unhelpful (Attar probably more so than Thor, but Thor was actually trying). During the course of the evening, however, Emma Swan spotted a little girl hiding just outside the entrance to the Great Hall. Upon following her, she determined that the girl was named Sarah and she was being held somewhere in Teleios. She tried to get as much information out of her, but before she could get anything more, there was a sudden earthquake. It passed within ten minutes, but those who were paying attention would have noticed the fact that Attar was gone and both Thor and Odin looked visibly rattled.
Throughout February, things continued to move forward, business as usual, even though the weather still prevented much traffic in and out of the temple. Both Anya and Lucifer went missing in the middle of February, seeming to have disappeared into the blizzard never to be seen again. February also marked the first appearance of statue versions of members of the Indebted appearing throughout the temple. There was a brief appearance by the goddesses of love that shook things up around Valentine’s Day, but beyond that things were quiet until the end of the month.
The last week of February brought another appearance by Sarah to Emma not giving very many clues before what she had before, but a few more clues of Sarah’s previous life were slipped into place. However, she still disappeared, same as before, and in her wake came an earthquake which resulted in a portal opening in the middle of the Great Hall. Spilling through it were Cecilia Valdez, another previous member of the Indebted, the Wolf God named Fenrir, and a giant three-headed hydra, which became stuck in the portal between the world Cecilia was trapped in. She, along with Fenrir and several members of the Indebted, struggled to put the hydra back where it belonged, but the temple was damaged in the process, as well as several people being injured. Cecilia responded to any reprimand that came her way by punching Odin in the face. (It wasn’t on screen, but trust the narration when she says that it was awesome.)
Early on in March, upon getting frustrated with the lack of answers to where the people who go missing actually go, Buffy decided to approach the dragon in the woods and took Elijah, Mitchell and Mal with her. There she found out that Nidhoggr had taken Anya, and is not going to return her unless Buffy does something for him in return. She agreed to make the trip to a city called Ereipo, but she would have to wait for spring in order to actually get there around the snow. Emma was also doing her own investigating, looking into the young girl she kept seeing. She bumped into Cyrus who informed her that she might not be seeing a little girl at all, but actually a young woman named Sally who went missing during the tenure of the previous city. Emma was determined to help her, and Cyrus wanted to do the same, so he said he would look into the answers that he could find among the agents’ records.
Not long after, Ares made an appearance in the city, looking for champions for his games. It was a few days later that a group of Indebted were selected for the first “mission” of this stay in the city, a chance to participate in Ares’s gladiator games, going to bat against the chosen champions - Klaus Mikaelson and Lydia Martin. The games where held outside the city in his own personal arena, and the Indebted gave them quite the show. He bestowed gifts on all the winners, and even offered positions in his employ to James Bond and Klaus, but in his gifts happened to go a mysterious key that Stefan Salvatore felt compelled to pick up.
While this was happening outside of the city, several changes were taking place in Teleios as well, the most of important of which being the season. Spring arrived in Teleios, and with it came Michael, the archangel and new agent in charge, as well as more of an idea of how much damage was truly done to the city. Still, most of the Indebted were happy to simply go outside and explore the world as it was. Given this newfound mobility, Cyrus briefed Buffy and her team on what exactly they were to expect in Ereipo, and gave them enough supplies to send them on their way. The next day Buffy, the Doctor, Amy Pond, Peter Hale, John Mitchell and Elijah Mikaelson set off on their journey where they retrieved the Book of Thoth and brought it back to the dragon. Nidhoggr performed his own version of a bait and switch however, and instead of Anya, he returned Lucifer to them instead.
While they were gone, however, all was not quiet back at the homestead. Sally appeared for a third time, this time to Emma, Hook and Cyrus. There was a small heartfelt moment where she briefly to flickered to show who she really was but in the end, and she mentioned that she had a brother named Max, she still disappeared, with a minor rumble left in her wake. Towards the end of March, Michael gave gifts in honor of the celebration of Passover and Easter, and Attar made his second appearance in the city, mostly to give Michael, who was revealed to be his sister, a hard time. There was a minor confrontation in the Great Hall, but after that Attar was free to wander as he saw fit. He eventually bumped into Kate Beckett, where he helped her start her murder board and gave her a challenge to solve, after her turn in the arena didn’t work out so well for her.
In early April, Thor took an interest in Hook’s ship and asked him for a favor. He sent him to the land of Lapurrak Santutegia, a realm of pirates, and find a man by the name of Sandoval. While Hook was there, he ran into a man named Max Walitzer, who claimed to be Sally’s brother. Max agreed to help Hook track down Sandoval, provided that Hook help him in trying to save his sister. They then ventured to the Cave of Wonders, navigated their way through the piles of treasure and found Jack, happy as a clam, claiming that he got himself trapped there on purpose. Neither Hook nor Max were amused. After nearly getting them trapped in the cave permanently, Max wound up knocking Jack unconscious and helping Hook haul him and his treasure back to the Jolly Roger. Before parting ways, as Max still had his own quest to complete, Max asked Hook to track down a key that was last seen in the Ares’s trophy room.
While he was gone, recovery was starting to work it’s way through the city, and pieces of the lives that the other Indebted used to lead were starting to take shape. Spencer Reid found a large chest inside one of the houses, and upon opening it, he found that they belonged to Cyrus, and contained a series of recordings, dictating the events of his life in the fifty years that he had spent in the city. He decided to dig through the recordings in an attempt to learn as much as he can about the situation.
Meanwhile, statue versions of the residents continues to be an even more prominent problem, especially in the month of April, eventually catching the attention of the Doctor when it happens to Amy. He promised that he would look into it at Rory’s behest, and the need to know what was going on only intensified, along with his anger, when it happened to Rory as well. After an angry confrontation with Michael, it was discovered that the process of turning the residents into a statue is some kind of defense mechanism by the temple. She wasn’t able to say more than that at the time, and the Doctor didn’t think it was a very good answer, but she promised that they would stay safe in the meantime, and he took her at her word. Towards the end of the month, there was another earthquake, but in this particular instance, there was no appearance of Sally or Sarah, just the quake itself.
The beginning of May, Attar returned to the temple offering honest answers in exchange for the answer to his riddle. Some took better advantage of that opportunity than others (here’s looking at you Mitchell), but in return Attar laid more than a few seeds, including one he may or may not regret in Peter Hale. He also brought a bar. You’re welcome.
Around the same time, Hook returned from his mission, and informed Emma what he learned from Max and about the key they may be able to find among Ares’s selections from the previous mission. They then set out to track down the victors where they eventually ran into Stefan Salvatore, who admitted to having the key in question.
The city continued to grow, both through recovery and the starts of buildings being built throughout the city. In the wreckage, Rose Tyler found a book of names, some of whom were members of the Indebted that were currently in the city -- none of whom remember being there. She later takes the book to Cecilia in the name of getting some answers, and she finds out that the book was the guestbook of the city, signed by every Indebted who passed through their doors, and the mayor kept track of their presence in the city. Meanwhile, in less pleasant discoveries, the statues were found to not be as durable as previously claimed when March Hare shattered the poor marquis de Carabas into many, many pieces.
Still, as the month progresses, Attar reveals his real reason for being in Teleios this time around. He’s here on a mission, and needs people to go into Hell for him. Gold, River Song, the Doctor, Athelstan, Nick Cutler and Hook are the chosen few, and Alloces leads them down the roads of their good intentions to get to the thing that Attar sent them for. Victory was at hand, until it was revealed that there was one more trial before the end of the road. One member of the party had to kill the other in order to open the door. In the meelee, Hook was killed by Gold. With the necessary betrayal completed, the door swung open to reveal a woman named Lilith. That was about all they managed to get out of her before Alloces demanded they move on and take her back to Attar, where they would discuss payment.
Back in Teleios, Rebekah Mikaelson was approached by Thor involving a favor that was related to the one that was asked of Hook, but involved going to approach the Amazons, who he was certain would find themselves very immune to Hook’s particular charm, and thought that Rebekah would be a good match. Rebekah agreed and was sent to Thebes where she had a sit-down conversation with Hippolyta and managed to obtain the property that Thor sought to be returned, in return for a favor owed. Rebekah agreed to the terms of the deal, and left Thebes to return to Teleios.
Sally also made another one of her monthly appearances, this time as herself and she and Emma had a long talk about how she got there. She explained that the earthquakes come from a bowl being held over the eyes of an agent she couldn’t remember the name of, and the venom of a snake that drops into her eyes. She heard that Hook had had contact with Max and she was hopeful. Emma promised that she would be coming to get her soon, and Sally promised to try and keep the earthquake as minimal as possible.
The first of June came round, and with it came the appearance of a very irate Captain Hook, courtesy of Attar’s promise to fix whatever he broke. After that, the participants of the mission started to trickle back in slowly, all with the exception of the Doctor, who was sent home for a canon bump. Another new arrival in the city was Athena, who spent a lot of her time here saying no. She also cursed a few people, but she’s fairly certain they deserved it. Later on came another change in season, which welcomed both Atum and Lilith to the city, and Attar settled up his last bit of business from his mission.
June and July provided another small uptick in the presence of the statues in the temple, which was starting to get under the skin of one Bruce Banner. He reached out to Attar, who still owed him an answer to his question, and found out much of what was already told to the Doctor -- it was for protection -- but also may have gotten a hint that there was something that the temple was trying to protect the Indebted from. And whatever it was, it was already in the city.
